Eat.Sleep.Blog Episode 6

Yes, Paul McEnany, Sean Howard and I are back with another episode. This time, a bit tighter, and a little bit more polished (but then our first Kaltura episode really was a dog's breakfast).

There are a few highlights:

• Sean leads us out and straight into trouble -- man-style trouble. Well, you will see what I mean. (0:00)
• The Grim Reaper's ugly assistant drops by (2:55) to introduce our special guest star, Katie Chatfield (3:45), talking about some of her great recent work for Mountain Dew
• Paul unpacks his thinking around extreme sports, brand association and niche marketing without swearing once. True (7:02)! But then, he was the one who brought up paedophiles in the first place.
• Sean gets the chance to imagine himself in Captain Kirk's tight fitting velour sweater and showcase the great William Shattner's efforts at hawking Commodore 64s way back when home computers were a revolution (8:43).

Eat.Sleep.Blog - Kaltura Edition

It has been a long time between drinks, but Sean, Paul and I are finally back with the next instalment of Eat.Sleep.Blog. And in our ongoing exploration of technologies, we have shifted, yet again ... this time trying out the new Kaltura video collaboration system.

A couple of days we started thinking about doing another episode ... so I suggested we try Kaltura to make the recording. Sean setup a series of clips as a framework and our "experiment" very quickly turned into a production rough cut ... thanks largely to the ease of use of the system. Despite a few issues with permissions, it is surprisingly easy to arrange, edit and produce a video podcast. And while this first Kaltura episode is a little rough ... I am sure it will get better over time.

For the past few weeks, Sean Howard, Paul McEnany and I have been trying to hook-up via video conference for a discussion of all things social-media. We have met with varying degrees of success ... but have had some great fun along the way.

Normally we start by bagging each other and then move onto more serious topics. This week the lads went ahead without me -- I was (truly) unable to connect to the Internet -- and the result is now available for your viewing pleasure. As you can see, there was no need for me to be there in person as Sean was able to "channel" me ...

One thing is clear is that the technology to do this -- to collaboratively vidcast/vodcast -- has some way to go. And because of the variety of issues that can arise with this technology -- from firewall and security issues through network/connection problems to peripheral quality -- it requires a sense of humour and a great deal of goodwill to continue to persist. Luckily, Paul and Sean have both of these in spades.
